New Year....Same Old YOU?

With the New Year approaching, and the Holiday "Feasting" Season almost over...it is typical for the New Year's push to lose the Holiday weight gain...OR the weight they committed to losing last year from the previous season, PLUS the newly gained "lbs" from this last one...

 So I ask you this...will you stick to your OLD ways of going to the gym and plopping on a treadmill or elliptical? Or going lifting the same weight routine that you have done since you were in high school?

If the answer is YES...let me ask you the following question....has it worked before?
I will answer for you...NO!

Next Question....if it has NOT worked in the past...then why try it again in the future expecting DIFFERENT results?

*Definition of Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and  expecting different results.

Now is your chance to break the cycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 years ago, I did just that! I made a commitment to myself to take Pilates and Yoga at 7am every Tuesday and Thursday. It changed my life!

I also buddied up with a friend, which helped them commit as well....

These classes were offered to me by my gym at a time that I could fit into my schedule which made me it easier for me to commit. I have always lifted weights, danced, stretched, did yoga on occasion and did cardio on my own. I had a loner mentality to working out (being that I was in the biz, I always thought I knew it all). So I changed my outlook towards fitness and kept an open mind.

The first few weeks were tough...but I stuck to it and gave both classes at least 3 trys. I ended up loving it! So much so, that a year later I became a Pilates certified trainer and I am still taking yoga! The results I saw were not immediate, (I know how much our society loves the "quick-fix" or the "magic pill" when it comes to results) but my results have stuck and I am a more well-rounded, balanced fitness individual..my body is in great condition and I feel as if I am in the best shape, mentally and physically, than I have ever been!

So I challenge you to get out of your comfort zone, try something new and unexpected! Usually the stuff we hesitate to try, is something we are not good at....
Well DUH! You have never done it before...therefore you would NOT be good at it..just yet :)
No one is born an expert...especially an expert at EVERYTHING...but to try and push yourself to work on your weaknesses (that means acknowledging your weaknesses) is a strength in my eyes! I will tell you, it has worked for the clients that are willing to try everything I throw at them...they have seen some amazing results!

Here are some ideas for trying something NEW:
(Feel free to try the absolute insane things too!)
* A Yoga/ Pilates Class
* Hang Gliding
* Sign up for a Tough Mudder or Warrior Dash Race
* A Running/ Swimming Club
* Commit to finishing your first Half-Marathon/Marathon/ Triathlon
* A Dance Class
* Walking/Bike ride with a buddy once or twice a week
* Look for interesting deals on Groupon/Living Social for bootcamps or specialty classes
* Paddleboarding (tried it this year and it quickly became a new obsession)
* A Spin class
* Work with a Trainer
* Run stairs

Here's another tip....to keep the "NEW" fresh...commit to something new for a month, then switch it to something else the next. You will be less likely to get bored or stuck in a rut.

So Good Luck! And here's to a Happier and Healthier New Year and New You!
